Trot/Refuel

Hope Everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I sure did. Anytime I can load my plate sky high with fat and carbs I am a happy camper! Remember the Turkey Trot I talked about? Well, I didn't really go as planned. I finished 70Th out of about 490 with a time of 25:37. The 5k times I had done a week prior were exactly 24 mins, and slightly under. So ya, I was disappointed, but I did it and that is all that matters.....right?!! The quote below is kind of how I'm feeling today, just thought I'd share!

Just Wanted to talk about refueling real quick! Check out www.refuelwithchocolatemilk.com. It talks about how a tall glass of lowfat chocolate milk is better than most recovery drinks. It has a perfect balance of everything you need post strenuous workout. For someone who has always feared dairy, this was very interesting to me. What do you think???

Just a little Tid Bit

I need a little pick-me-up before my workout tonight, so I thought this quote would be perfect. I am hoping for 5 miles at a 9 min mile pace. I don't want to push too hard because on Thanksgiving morning I am doing the turkey trot 5k. It's only 3.2 miles but I reALLY want to do it in 22 minutes. My quickest last week was in exactly 24 and I just about fainted afterward. Maybe the thought of all the yummy food I will get to dive into later that day will get me through it?!?

Holy smokes, yesterday I did Jillian Michaels 3o day shred, level 3 with my friend Jess, and it was KILLER. By the way, it is the perfect workout for cross training for a race. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.

........What is you workout for the day??

........Are you doing your local turkey trot??

Gear

Lets Talk Gear. You are only as good as your tools, right? I'll share some of my tried and true gear and supplements. Hope it helps:)

Best.Shorts.Ever: Nike tempo shorts, with built in undies:)
I can Hardly tell I am sweating when I wear this! Nike Dri fit spandex tee.
The Running crop. This picture is of Lululemon's inspire crop which will run you a steep 90 bucks, but they are AMAZing. Also, target has some great crops for 24.99:)

Mizuno Wave Riders: they have GREAT reviews
I am currently training in The nike free run2. They feel like cotton balls on my feet. seriously.
My best friend/worst enemy. The Garmin forerunner 305
Recovery is so important. Glutamine is great for fast muscle recovery! It dissolves fast, and is tasteless.
Cyto sport 100% whey protein in chocolate is my favorite protein. After a run I mix a scoop of it with 2 teaspoons of glutamine into 8 0z of water. it is sooooo yummy!

Do you have some favorite gear/supplements I should know about?

A Little Pick me up

I am obsessed with green smoothies. They are my go to when I need energy or I don't feel like eating raw veggies. AND I can even get my 4 year old to drink them. Just called it a "shrek" smoothie or a "super hero" smoothie, it does the trick ever time. I also give my toddler some in her sippy cup. It gives me peace of mind knowing they are getting their veggies. I'm so sneaky.....muhahaha. I make my smoothie different each time depending on what I have. I'll just give you the basics and you can go off of that.

Oh...and you need a good blender for these smoothies. Or else you may end up with spinach chunks floating around your smoothie. yum:/ I use a VITA MIX, the ones you see at costco sometimes. Blend tecs are really good blenders as well.

* Fill the blender with about 2 cups of cold water
* add a LARGE handful of spinach and Kale, or any other green you may have
* i usually add a small handful of baby carrots
give that a whirl
* add a banana, and any other fruit your little heart desires
* i usually add a cup of strawberries(i buy the big frozen bag from costco)
* I love to add a pear as well( just cut it in half and remove the stem and seeds)
* add a TBS of ground flax
* a cup of ice
* A few drops of liquid stevia for sweetness( found at sprouts or any other health food store)
-if you don't have stevia add some frozen OJ concentrate or any other juice. I sometimes do the OJ and stevia. I have a giant sweet tooth!
Give it another big whirl, and enjoy! Let me know what you guys think!

Do you have a vita mix or blend tec??

Do you have a veggie that you despise that you think can be masked in a smoothie???

One of those days

Had my first bout of food poisoning this weekend. Pray to the heavens above you never get it....TRUST me. I am a little behind in my Half marathon training so I decided to do 4 miles after church to get me back on track. I know, I know, naughty me. It was HARD, sweaty, and discouraging. I think puking my guts out yesterday had something to do with how hard it was. I did it, it's over with, and that's all that matters(keep your eyes on the prize). I think knowing I could come home to banana bread helped me!:)

Have you ever had food poisoning?? Hope not.

Are you training for any races??

Do you have a guilty pleasure that sometimes helps you through a workout?!?

Inspirational Quotes and Sayings

Just a little daily dose of inspiration. During my run or workout, I repeat quotes like these in my head. you are less likely to stop when you are telling yourself...."I CAN and I WILL"

A first for everything

The First time for anything is always awkward. Especially if you are trying to start a new running/health/fitness inspirational blog with next to nothing blogging experience. I am in NO way a writer, I am grammatically IN-correct most of the time, I use run-on sentences, and frankly sometimes I may not make sense. But, there is one thing I do know, I am passionate about health, fitness, and getting my body into shape. I am creating this blog to outlet my daily workouts, yummy food/recipes, and anything I find that may be inspirational. I am hoping with this blog I can reach out to others and inspire them as well. Here it goes!!!

Maybe I should introduce myself a little! I am Cori, wife to Jeremy, Mom to Garrett(4) and Berkley(18mos). I have been active all of my life, and have always enjoyed eating healthy. But, Lets be honest, life gets in the way sometimes. We have sweet babies, and our body changes. I was inspired by running and using food for fuel to battle the baby bulge. At my young age of 24, I feel my best yet!
